About the Tamworth region

Tamworth is the country music capital of Australia. It hosts one of the world's biggest music events, the 10-day Tamworth Country Music Festival. Even if you miss the festival, held every January, Tamworth is a delightful destination at any time with many things to do, see and taste.

In town, the Hands of Fame Park contains the handprints of more than 300 country music stars, and the mighty 12-metre-high Golden Guitar. Check out the memorabilia at the Big Golden Guitar Tourist Centre.

In country NSW, Tamworth is also a year-round sporting and entertainment centre with state-of-the-art venues and a busy events calendar. Enjoy the thrills of the National Professional Rodeo in January and the Hats Off to Country Festival in July.

You can also learn the horseriding and cattle-mustering skills of cowgirls and cowboys in an 11-day program at the Leconfield Jillaroo and Jackaroo School. The working cattle and sheep station is near Tamworth, a region well-known for its agriculture. This region has a strong farming focus on sheep, beef, poultry, grains and dairy, as well as newer ventures, such as vineyards, olive groves, nuts, fish farming, honey and delicious berries.

The area’s top-quality produce is served in many Tamworth restaurants. You can also indulge in a 10-day celebration of the region’s fresh produce at the Taste Tamworth Festival in April. In the wider Tamworth area, you'll find exhilarating adventures and experiences, such as walking trails in national parks, boating, fishing, water sports, horseriding, birdwatching and fossicking.

Tamworth is five hours’ drive from Sydney in northern NSW. You can travel by train from Sydney’s Central Station to Tamworth. Airlines fly from Sydney to Tamworth. The town is also a leisurely drive from the gorgeous beaches of Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour, on the North Coast of NSW.
